Scarlett Gunasekera '27
Scarlett is in the College of Arts in Sciences with a Biological Science concentration in General Biology. After graduating, she plans to take a gap year to do clinical work and then go to medical school. She did a summer semester at Shoals Marine Lab, where her favorite classes were Field Ornithology and Investigative Marine Biology (highly recommend). On campus, she is involved in Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which helps raise service dogs for people with vision loss; Big Red Buddies, where she volunteers in a preschool setting; and the Cornell Chorus. Scarlett is involved in independent research that focuses on the distribution of the algal epiphytes Vertebrata lanoas and Elachista fucicola on their host Ascophyllum nodosum. For fun, Scarlett likes to play cards, go climbing, and read.
Scarlett’s words of advice to incoming students:
“You have time, explore all the options you think are interesting. If you find something uninteresting, you can cross it off the list of your career paths or hobbies. ”
