Anna He '27

Anna is a sophomore concentrating in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and double majoring in Entomology. Passionate about research, she works in the Reed Lab, investigating gene expression differences in butterfly sensory tissues using CRISPR-Cas9 and other molecular techniques. Previously, she conducted research at the Li Lab at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine, where she examined the effectiveness of novel biomaterials for cardiovascular treatments. Outside of research, Anna is a Teaching Assistant for BIOEE1780 (Introduction to Evolutionary Biology and Diversity) and serves as a Resident Advisor. She also previously served as a Student Curator at the Cornell University Insect Collection. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in natural areas, engaging in scientific outreach, and contributing to biodiversity conservation efforts. She is also passionate about human health and nutrition, holding certifications in CPR, First Aid, personal training, and nutrition coaching.

Her advice for new students is:

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and explore paths that genuinely interest you, even if they’re outside your original plan. College is a time to grow, make mistakes, and discover what excites you—so be kind to yourself in the process, and trust that it’s okay to take your own path.
