Olivia Qin '27
Olivia is a sophomore concentrating in Neurobiology and Behavior and plans to attend medical school after college. She has conducted research on the molecular mechanisms of DNA-PKcs-mediated fork remodeling in the Smolka Lab, where she cultured and treated healthy and cancer cell lineages to investigate the synergistic effects of DNA-PKcs inhibition in combination with chemotherapeutics. She is currently starting research that explores verbatim and gist traces in false memory at the Memory and Neuroscience Lab. Beyond research, she is the Co-President of the Healthcare Review at Cornell, the Co-Incident Coordinator of the Translator Interpreter Program, a member of the KDSAP Events Committee, an Anatomy and Physiology event supervisor for Science Olympiad at Cornell, and the pianist in the Cornell Eastern Music Ensemble. In her free time, she loves learning Chopin etudes, playing tennis with friends, and experimenting with origami!
Olivia’s advice for incoming freshmen
“Seek out your curiosity, branch your interests, and take advantage of your undergrad years to explore different academic, social, and recreational groups! Side quests can lead you to discover new hobbies and meet life-long friends! Engage with others openly and genuinely, and don't shy away from change!”
