Ryan Joe '27

Ryan is a sophomore concentrating in Neurobiology and Behavior and minoring in Education. Starting the summer after his freshman year, he has been working with the Brain Computation and Behavior (AyA) Lab on a project that aims to uncover the spatial memory mechanisms at play in mice living in naturalistic environments - something he has really enjoyed so far since, like the mice, he prefers being out in nature. Outside of class, he has worked as a teaching/learning assistant in pre-med classes like BIOG 1440 and CHEM 2070 and is part of Cornell's Biomedical Device project team. He volunteers at Cayuga Medical Center in the emergency department and for the Georgia Red Cross. His hobbies include going to the gym, watching movies, and hiking.

His advice for incoming students

“Acknowledge your priorities early on, and don't be afraid to adjust when the time calls for it! Between Cornell's demanding academic environment, various extracurricular activities, maintaining strong friendships, and protecting your physical and mental health, it's incredibly easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted when these commitments happen to overlap. Whenever these busy periods arise, I try to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel and reward myself with time to relax. Your friends will always be there for you, and maintaining balance is crucial.”
