Angel Escamilla '27
Ángel is a junior studying Biological Sciences with a biochemistry concentration and double majoring in Chemistry. He has plans to attend medical school after a gap year and is interested in oncology. He conducts research in the Brávo Nuñez Lab, where he aims to understand the frequency of genomic instability among different yeast strain backgrounds. In previous summers, he has interned at Weill Cornell through the WISER program where he studied the amino acid sequences of macrophage tropic and t-cell tropic HIV-1 cells, and interned for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where he developed interpretation and translation materials and trained to become an English-to-Spanish medical interpreter. On campus, he is involved with organizations such as the Latina/o Studies Program, P3, ALPFA, LMSA+ At Cornell, and Alpha Chi Sigma. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with friends, grabbing an iced latte, playing video games, or going for walks.
His advice to freshman:
“It is easy to get overwhelmed with schoolwork during the first year, but prioritize your well-being above all else. Take breaks, make time for your hobbies, and hang out with your friends. Most importantly, be kind to yourself!”
