Rowan Lopez ' 26
Rowan is senior concentrating in Marine Biology and plans to attend graduate school after graduating. He is a member of the Babonis Lab, where he studies the evolution and development of fighting structures and stinging cells in sea anemones. Last summer, Rowan stayed in Ithaca with the Bablab as a Choose! Development Scholar for the Society of Developmental Biology. After completeing his semester abroad in Aotearoa New Zealand, he which he will continue the Choose! Development program this summer. Outside of research, he is an education coordinator with the Cornell Raptor Program, a member of the Rawlings Research Scholars and Biology Scholars Program and a TA for BIOMG 2800: Lectures in Genetics and Genomics. In his free time, Rowan enjoys working with animals, embroidering, and playing D&D. His favorite class for the bio major has been BIOEE 3730: Biology and Biodiversity of the Marine Invertebrates with his overall favorite courses being ANSC 1130: Intro to Captive Raptor Husbandry and CLASS 2656: Greek Drama.
His advice to freshmen:
“Don't be afraid to step outside your major! Follow your interests and take the classes you're excited or curious about! It doesn't matter if something isn't directly related to your career goals, if a class or club interests you, take the opportunity to get involved! ”
