Amena Shamia '26
Amena is a senior majoring in Biological Sciences with a strong focus on molecular and cellular biology. After graduation, she hopes to either pursue PhD or work at a postbac at a biotech company. Amena also previously worked in immunology and genetics labs at Columbia Medical Center and Queens College previous consecutive summers. This summer, she is conducting research in the Feaga Lab, investigating protein interactions involved in ribosome stalling in Bacillus subtilis. At Cornell, Amena is actively involved in CAPSU, the Class Council 2026, CURM, EARS, C-CAMP, part of Phi Sigma Pi as well as MECA. She's also a transfer student and helps her community college students with transfer applications, essays and more. For fun,, Amena walks around Ithaca waterfalls, runs early in the morning and binge watches Kdramas.
Words of Advice: Never doubt your worth. The fact that you're here means you carry immense potential. Always advocate for yourself—there are many people ready to support you, but at the end of the day, your growth depends on how confidently and comfortably you show up as yourself. Trust your journey, and know that you belong.
