Amanda Xu '26
Amanda is a biochemistry concentrator with plans to pursue a PhD and a career in pharmaceutical industry. She is currently a member of the Crickard lab, where she is involved in investigating Rad54, a motor protein involved in multiple stages of homologous recombination and linked to breast tumor susceptibility, primary lymphoma, and colon cancer. On campus, Amanda is also a part of the Barbell Club, ASBMB, and BURC. Her favorite class has been BIOMG 2800: Lectures in Genetics & Genomics, which she is also a TA for. In a past summer, Amanda completed an REU at Purdue University in structural and computational biology and biophysics.
Her advice to freshman:
“Stay curious, ask questions early and often, and don't be afraid to seek help — that's a sign of strength, not weakness. Build connections with your professors, advisors, and classmates; your community here will be one of your biggest resources. Most importantly, give yourself time to adjust and grow. You don't have to have everything figured out right away — exploration is part of the process!”
