Internal Transfer Policy
Policy on Internal Transfers into Plant Sciences (Effective January 2024)
All students applying for transfer into Plant Sciences, including those who wish to double major, must be able to complete all college and major requirements within the timeline of their expected date of graduation. Interested students should reach out to the Plant Sciences program coordinator Lauren Boggs (leb69 [at] cornell.edu (leb69[at]cornell[dot]edu)) to:
- determine eligibility based on the criteria below.
- review past courses to determine equivalency.
- map out a path for future coursework to complete college and major requirements within the appropriate timeframe.
All internal transfers from CALS and other Cornell schools:
- Must have completed at least two full semesters at Cornell.
- Minimum cumulative Cornell GPA of 2.5
Freshman applicants
- Biology: Must have completed an introductory biology course with lab or a separate biology lab course.
- Plant Sciences coursework: Must have completed at least one PLSCI course, such as PLSCI 1101, with a minimum grade of B.
Sophomore applicants
- Biology: Must have completed an introductory biology course with lab or a separate biology lab course.
- Chemistry: Fall: Must be enrolled in or have completed introductory chemistry. Spring: Must have completed introductory chemistry and be enrolled in organic chemistry.
- Plant Sciences coursework: Must have completed PLSCI 1101 and PLSCI 1420 with a minimum grade of B.
Junior applicants
- Eligibility will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- That being said, junior transfers must have completed a significant portion of the Plant Sciences program to be eligible for transfer, including all introductory and primary courses, plus at least one foundational course, e.g., PLSCI 2600.
- All PL-prefix courses must be completed with an average GPA of 2.5 for PL-prefix courses.
Seniors
- Not eligible to apply for transfer.
