From cassava farmer to seed entrepreneur

Learn how Muhogo Bora trained and equipped Tanzania farmer Asha Nasoro Luvila to become a Community Seed Entrepreneur, transforming her farm into a thriving business that now supplies more than 35,000 certified cassava cuttings to hundreds of farmers through a guaranteed market.

Building a livelihood

In 2022, Asha Nasoro Luvila was earning a modest living growing cassava on five acres in rural Tabora, Tanzania. Like many women farmers, she faced barriers that made it difficult to expand her business, from limited access to resources and training to social norms that often restricted women's economic opportunities.

Growing a business

Through Muhogo Bora, Asha received starter seed, training and support to become a seed entrepreneur. Instead of selling only cassava roots, she learned to produce and market certified planting material, creating new opportunities to increase her income and strengthen her farm business.

A family investment

Success often depends on support from both farmers and their families. Muhogo Bora works within communities to ensure that women can participate fully in agricultural opportunities. Asha's husband supported her efforts from the beginning, helping create a foundation for growth that benefits their entire household.

Creating opportunities for others

Today, Asha supplies more than 35,000 cassava cuttings to hundreds of farmers through a guaranteed market. Her income helps pay school fees, expand her farm and pursue plans for cassava processing. As her business grows, so does the potential to create jobs and strengthen her community, demonstrating the broader impact Muhogo Bora aims to achieve.
