Vegetable Breeding Institute Field Day

Please join us for the 2025 Vegetable Breeding Institute Field Days, August 25 – 26 in Ithaca, New York.   

Hotel Reservations

A block of rooms is reserved at the Best Western University Inn, 1020 Ellis Hollow Rd, Ithaca NY 14850 for Sunday August 24th through Wednesday August 27th. The room rate for single or double occupancy is $119.00 per night + tax and includes breakfast. To book your room, use this  Hotel Reservation Link or call 607-272-6100. Schedule

  • Monday, August 25: We will leave the hotel at 8:00 a.m. and tour the field plots at the Cornell Homer C. Thompson Vegetable Research Farm in Freeville, NY, returning to the hotel by 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. We hope you will join us for an informal buffet dinner at 6:30 pm at the Moakley House located at the Robert Trent Jones golf course on the Cornell University campus.
  • Tuesday, August 26: We will leave the hotel at 8:00 a.m. to tour more field plots in Freeville. The field day program is expected to wrap up around noon, followed by lunch and return to the hotel by around 2 p.m. A detailed itinerary of the event will be emailed to those registered in advance.

Transportation

If you are traveling by plane the best options are the Ithaca airport (conveniently located but fewer flights) and the Syracuse airport (a little over an hour’s drive away but has many more flights). We provide bus transportation between the hotel and field plots/greenhouses, but you need to make your own arrangements for getting to and from the airport, hotel and the Moakley House. The Best Western University Inn operates a shuttle which can be reserved in advance.

We hope you can join us as our vegetable breeders showcase their research.  Please register by July 25.

Please note:  This field day is organized as a forum to foster engagement between the University breeding programs and vegetable seed companies.  Registration is limited to seed companies with Active VBI memberships. We can accommodate up to 3 attendees per membership.  If you would like to send more attendees, please contact us.
