Food Forest Trial Garden Field Days
Thank you for the generous funding provided by the Food Forest Trial Garden Project grant from Cornell Cooperative Extension Administration.
We are now planning to hold our Food Forest Trial Garden field days (postponed from last spring and fall) on these dates in 2022:
- April 30, 2022: Hilltop Community Farm, 343 Cass Hill Road, Candor, NY (20 minute drive from Ithaca).
- May 13, 2022: Cornell Botanical Gardens, Ithaca, N.Y.

Tentative program
Subject to change and refinement as we get closer to the event.
Day 1: April 30, 2022 - Ecological gardening workshops and planting of the Tioga Food Forest.
CCE-Tioga, Hilltop Community Farm, 343 Cass Hill Road, Candor, NY
- 9:00 a.m. - Overview of perennial polyculture design project and plant selection.
- 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - Plant Food Forest with rotating workshops on ecological gardening skills.
- 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. - Lunch Speaker: Samantha Bosco, PhD candidate in the Horticulture Section of SIPS on the “History of Nut Production in New York”
- 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. - Rotating workshops on ecological gardening skills:
- 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. - Optional networking and refreshments
Day 2: May 13, 2022, Ecological gardening sites tour
Cornell Botanic Gardens, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.
Limited to 50 participants for Covid safety precautions
Tour ecological gardening sites at Cornell Botanic Gardens with Director of Horticulture Emily Detrick and Horticulture staff. (Restricted to Cornell Cooperative Extension staff for capacity limits.)
- 1:00 p.m. - Park at the Peterson lot (across from Cornell Dairy Bar). Meet at the Cornell Botanic Garden Kienzle Overlook. (Tower Rd. across from Dairy Bar. Red pin in this map.) Split into two groups.
- 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. - Tour Botanic Buzzline.
- 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. - Tour Wildflower Garden and Native Lawn
- 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. - Tour North Walk and Bioswale
