Sofia Brahimi is a development researcher and practitioner focusing on women's rights and empowerment as well as the institutions that sustain them across the Global South. She earned a B.S. in International Affairs from the George Washington University's Elliott School with a concentration in International Development and a Certificate in French, and was a member of the university's Women's Leadership Program in the Globalization, Economics, and Business cohort. As a U.S. State Department Gilman Scholar, she studied abroad in Rome, Italy, where she researched Egypt's processes of securitization and how borders shape identity along with community formation.
Sofia's first research endeavor at Sciences Po's Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) where she revised the institution's women's rights curriculum under the Academic Adviser for Human Rights solidified her specific interest in women's development. At the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), she supported the Executive Office notably with the U.S. Election Program. As an Executive Research Officer at LX Capital Group, she led knowledge briefs along with due diligence for internal and client dossiers and supported CEO assignments across several regions, particularly the US and MENA. She most recently served as the Junior Executive Manager at Grey Matter International LLC, a strategic advisory firm based in Washington, DC, where she pursued corporate and institutional outreach on behalf of the Board Chairman and the President & CEO.
