Zorair Kirakosian has spent the past 20 years advancing rural development, with a strong focus on capacity building and community empowerment. As Director of Field Operations for the Turpanjian Rural Development Program at the American University of Armenia (AUA), he has led large-scale training initiatives that have equipped over 1,800 rural entrepreneurs with practical skills. These efforts have contributed to the launch of more than 650 businesses and the creation of nearly 1,200 jobs across multiple regional communities in Armenia.

Known as a thoughtful and hands-on mentor, Zorair builds trust-based relationships with local entrepreneurs, providing guidance beyond formal training, brokering peer connections, and supporting long-term success. His leadership reflects a deep understanding of rural dynamics, cultural context, and the transformative power of community-based initiatives.

Beyond his programmatic work, Zorair contributes to public service and collaborative initiatives. He has served as Chair of the AUA Staff Assembly, leading efforts to strengthen shared governance and promote a culture of social responsibility. He has also partnered with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on projects advancing sustainable rural development.

Zorair’s leadership combines humility, vision, and a commitment to empowering others. Whether navigating complex program logistics or advocating for rural voices in policy, he emphasizes practical impact and community-driven solutions. As a 2025–26 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow, he aims to deepen his expertise in rural economic development, expand his international network, and broaden the social and economic impact of his work.
