Frank Kporwodu is a Food Safety and Sustainable Food Systems professional currently serving as Food Safety Compliance Officer at the Ghana Food Movement. His work addresses Africa’s pressing challenges of food safety, food security, and food loss and waste (FLW) across the supply chain.
With more than a decade of experience in food safety, quality assurance, and operations management, Frank is passionate about transforming food systems to combat hunger (SDG 2), reduce poverty (SDG 1), and promote sustainability (SDG 12). He leads initiatives to recover quality food for safe, cost-effective distribution to vulnerable communities while advocating for FLW reduction in Ghana. His expertise includes the practical application of HACCP-based Standard Operating Procedures and food recovery techniques to enhance food quality and safety.
Frank has led numerous impactful projects throughout his career. With Food for All Africa, he co-developed the Global Food Donation Policy Atlas in partnership with the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic and The Global Food Banking Network. During the Akosombo Dam spillage, he directed emergency relief efforts that reached over 5,000 families, and he later facilitated the nationwide distribution of more than 50,000 food boxes as part of the 1 Billion Meal Campaign.
He holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology from Keimyung University, South Korea, and a Bachelor’s degree in Food Process Engineering from the University of Ghana, with additional training in Food Systems (Wageningen University and Research) and International Trade Law (The Trade Law Centre).
