Elyas Abdulahi Mohamued is an Associate Professor and senior academic leader at Jigjiga University in Ethiopia, with more than 20 years of experience in higher education, research, and institutional leadership. He specializes in geography and environmental studies, sustainable development, climate change, environmental management, and economic growth.

Elyas earned his Ph.D. from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, where he received the Honorary International Graduate award in 2019. At Jigjiga University, he has held several leadership roles, including Director of Student Services, Director of Academic Programs Development, Director of Distance and Continuing Education, Director of Business Enterprises, and Vice President for Research, Community Services, and Technology Transfer.

His research explores natural resource management, the climate change–migration–conflict nexus, regional development, and policy analysis. He has published extensively on Ethiopia’s economic transitions, environmental sustainability, and the resource curse, contributing to both national and international scholarship.

Beyond academia, Elyas actively engages in policymaking, development initiatives, and community service, with a strong commitment to youth empowerment and research capacity building. His work supports peace, stability, and sustainable growth in Ethiopia’s Somali region. Guided by his vision for Ethiopia’s prosperity, Elyas continues to champion education, innovation, and sustainable resource management as pathways to long-term development.
