Adobe upgrades

Adobe has updated their software licensing model. In the current Adobe model, software is licensed to your Cornell identity, not to each computer. There are three likely scenarios, we are surveying folks about which option will work best for them.

  1. If you only need Adobe Acrobat Reader, we will be updating your CALS-OIT managed computer to the latest version and removing all previous versions.
  2. If you already have a Creative Cloud Named User license you have the latest versions and should be fine.
  3. If you need Acrobat Professional, we will be offering you the latest version to install at your convenience. This version has a seven (7) day free trial and after that it requires an Adobe account (approved by your department manager via CIT).

If you use any other computers the following information on other Adobe applications might be relevant.

If you currently only have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, we will be updating your CALS-OIT managed computer to the latest version after the winter holidays, in early 2019.

If you already have a Creative Cloud Named User license, you have the latest versions and should be fine.

Named user licenses are not available to Cornell students, if you are a student and need Adobe Acrobat Pro software on a CALS-OIT managed computer, please submit a request at https://help.cals.cornell.edu

History of Adobe Acrobat at Cornell:

In late 2014,  Cornell signed an enterprise license with Adobe that made Adobe Acrobat Pro licenses available to all faculty and staff of Cornell University.  The agreement signed in 2014 has expired and a new agreement has been signed that provides Cornell with a limited number of Adobe Acrobat Pro licenses for faculty and staff.  A number of CALS Computers currently have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed and as of December 1, 2018 that license will expire.
