Flood Resilience for Public Access Sites Along the Hudson River from Troy to Yonkers

The Flood Resilience Handbook (PDF) is now available to help owners and managers of public river access sites adapt their facilities to existing and predicted flooding. The handbook provides site owners and managers with guidelines to reduce damage, costs, and other consequences associated with the effects of climate change, and begin planning for resilience.

The NYSDEC Climate Smart Communities certification program provides guidance and technical assistance and funding to communities taking action on mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.

The Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network provides networking and educational opportunities for local governments committed to taking actionable steps to manage current and future flood risks.

Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project

The Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project provides science-based information on the best options for preserving coastal natural features and functions through shoreline stabilization projects.

Climate Resilience Partnership

The Climate Resilience Partnership is a group of Cornell Cooperative Extension associations in the Hudson Valley that provides assistance with Climate Smart Communities certification and climate adaptation planning.

CAPI Adapt

The Climate Action Planning Institute (CAPI) Adapt program assists communities participating in climate action planning with the option to complete Climate Vulnerability Assessments and Climate Adaptation Plans.

MyCoast: New York

Developed by NY Sea Grant and NYS Water Resources Institute, the MyCoast: New York portal is used to collect and analyze photos of changing water levels, shorelines, and hazardous weather impacts across New York’s varied coasts and water bodies. Photos are linked to real-time environmental conditions to create reports that help stakeholders like government agencies, business owners, and residents understand our changing environment and make informed decisions.
 

CCARP Template

NYSDEC Office of Climate Change has developed a “Local Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Plan Template” (CCARP template) that incorporates the latest tools and processes for developing high quality, effective climate change adaptation and resilience plans in communities.
 

Mitigate NY

Led by the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and supported by the Disaster Preparedness Commission, MitigateNY is New York State's central hub for hazard mitigation planning - home to the State Hazard Mitigation Plan and local planning efforts. Designed for local governments, planners, and community partners, the platform provides data, tools, and guidance to meet federal requirements, secure funding, and drive effective risk reduction. 
 

Resilient NY

Resilient NY is a one stop shop to help New Yorkers adapt to changes from extreme weather events. This website provides a centralized platform with quick links and tools to help plan and implement measures to reduce risk and adapt to climate change. Resources include a list of Adaptation Resources for New Yorkers.

NYS Department of State Resilience Planning

The NYS DOS Office of Planning, Development and Community Infrastructure works with communities to increase their resilience to climate change impacts, particularly coastal flooding. Their Resilience Planning website provides resources that help communities understand their vulnerabilities, advance resilience measures that reduce risk, and avoid investments that are not highly adapted to a changing climate.
