PRO-DAIRY welcomes three new staff members, including two new Farm Business Management hires and one new Dairy Environmental Systems hire.

Farm Business Management team adds two new members

  • Lainey Koval (pictured left) has been working part-time with PRO-DAIRY, starting during her senior year at Cornell, and is now on staff full-time. She will provide administrative support for the Dairy Farm Business Summary and Analysis (DFBS) project and work with discussion groups, activity analysis projects, and Dairy Profit Monitor. Koval grew up on her family's dairy farm (Koval Brothers Dairy in Saratoga, New York) and is passionate about farm financial analysis and communicating research to dairy producers.
  • Tori Reese (pictured right) will provide administrative support for Dairy Profit Monitor and the Dairy Advancement Program. She will also assist with discussion groups, activity projects, and DFBS efforts. Reese grew up on a small dairy farm. After graduating from Cornell in 2023, with a focus on dairy management, she worked on a dairy, assisting with herd management, and worked at Dairy One as a forage lab technician.
The Dairy Farm Business Summary & Analysis Program is the most robust and longstanding dairy financial analysis and benchmarking program in the country. Launched for the 1995 business year, this program supports the use of on-farm data over time to improve business and financial management on participating farms along with driving extension, research, and teaching efforts that support the long-term viability of the dairy industry in New York.

Dairy Profit Monitor is an online business trend analysis tool that provides a monthly snapshot of key operating parameters and farm-level efficiencies. It provides a means for farms to monitor their businesses in a more timely manner. Farmers can create customizable benchmark reports to track progress and trends, assess the impacts of management changes and highlight areas for improvement.

The Dairy Advancement Program, in partnership with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, is designed to enhance profitability of New York dairy farms while maintaining a commitment to environmentally responsible dairy farming.

Dairy Environmental Systems adds one new team member

  • Kayli Tolk (pictured middle) will support research and outreach projects as an Environmental Systems Technician. Tolk is from and worked as an environmental scientist in South Dakota and has experience with regenerative farming, sheep flock management and environmental conservation.
Dairy Environmental Systems (DES) works closely with members of our PRO-DAIRY multidisciplinary team, along with select New York, U.S. and international dairy industry leaders to identify, develop, document, and introduce innovative methods in dairy manure management/treatment and energy systems targeted to enhance animal well-being, system efficiency, environmental compliance, and overall farm profitability. These efforts are accomplished with the overall goal to better position dairy producers and their advisors to make informed business decisions to further individual farm and industry-wide growth and sustainability.

PRO-DAIRY is a nationally recognized extension and applied research leader serving dairy farms for more than 35 years.
