Tackle challenges as diverse as the world itself
Students in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (DNRE) explore the ecological, social and ethical dimensions of environmental and natural resource issues in the diverse range of undergraduate courses.
We offer students an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to gain the fundamental knowledge and learn the analytical tools required to conserve, restore, and manage the Earth’s biodiversity and ecosystem services in sustainable ways. A large number of hands-on field courses provide direct experience working in forests, wetlands, streams and lakes of the region and in policy-making arenas in Washington, D.C.
Environment & Sustainability Major
Our faculty, staff and courses play key roles in the undergraduate major in Environment & Sustainability (E&S), an interdisciplinary, cross-college major that confronts the environment and sustainability challenges of our time.
Many of the department’s courses are required in the E&S core curriculum and concentrations. All department faculty members advise in the E&S major.
