Weed Science Teaching Garden
The Cornell Weed Science Teaching Garden was established in 2008 to enhance the educational experience of Cornell students and visitors for those tenacious plants we call ‘weeds’!
The Weed Garden includes more than 125 different agricultural and invasive weed species including poisonous plants from more than 30 plant families common to the Northeastern United States and southern Canada.
Easy-to-read labels provide the scientific and common names of each plant as well as the family and growth habit (e.g. annuals, perennials).

About weeds
What is a weed? Weeds are plants out of place -- plants that interfere with the activities of humans. They may be toxic to humans or livestock, cause allergies, harbor crop diseases, or (most importantly) compete with crops reducing yields.
However, weeds can also be beneficial. They can reduce erosion and add organic matter to soil, and can provide food and cover for wildlife.
Weeds comprise a vast diversity of growth forms, reproductive and survival strategies. You will see many of these highly diverse plants at the Cornell Weed Garden.
