Whole Genome Sequencing Community Learning Group

Why?

Based on results of the 2016 NYCoE regional Needs Assessment survey, whole genome sequencing (WGS) and its applications to foodborne outbreak surveillance and investigations clearly emerged as a "training need".  To address this, the NYCoE is hosting online WGS community learning groups, a monthly "grand rounds"-type discussion to go over actual cases encountered by regional partner states, and share ideas and questions within the regional partners.  These are case-based, discussion-driven web conferences where the spirit of collaboration and information exchange are the expectation, and where current and best-practices can be communicated, strengthening and calling on the spirit of the Learning Collaborative.

What?

• 1) a 10-minute introduction by a subject-matter expert (SME) on a topic of relevance to the case, if requested by the case presenter(s),
• 2) a 20-minute presentation of a foodborne outbreak investigation where WGS was used, either to solve or to obfuscate the case
• 3) a 30-minute discussion period where all participants share advice, ask questions, collaborate on a solution, etc.
