Peer Mentor Spotlights

In collaboration with faculty advising partners, E&S Peer Mentors welcome and support new students. Peer Mentors play a critical role in helping new students navigate their first year at Cornell. Mentoring is an opportunity to pay it forward and share your wisdom and experience.

Meet Peer Mentors Past & Present

Peer Mentor Spotlight

Aaron Lawrence

Aaron Lawrence is a recent Cornell University Arts and Sciences graduate. During his time at Cornell he majored in both Environment and Sustainability with a concentration in Sustainable Food Systems, and in Psychology focusing mostly on social/ moral psychology. Aaron also minored in Climate Change during his time. He is most interested in learning about and involving himself in sustainable alternatives in food production and to traditional terrestrial farming. He is currently a member on E-board for the hydroponics club, involved in a collaboration between Dr. Won’s aquaculture lab and Dilmun Hill Farm (the student run produce farm), and connects with the campus’ resident aquaculture specialist and lab. Aaron was an E&S Peer Mentor through both his 2nd and 3rd year, he was a member of Psi Chi Psychology Honors Society and participated on a project team (CUGeoData) for a year and a half. Outside of academics Aaron enjoys taking ice skating classes on campus and playing both intramural and pick up sports in his spare time.

Sabine Paz-Le Draoulec

Sabine is a sophomore studying Environment and Sustainability in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She is minoring in Entomology, Feminism Gender and Sexuality Studies, Law and Society, and Indigenous Studies. She is interested in how the dynamics of social insects can be used to understand and solve political issues. Around campus she is involved with the Residential Student Congress as the Director of Advocacy, the Cornell University ACLU, and is an active member of the Bee Club. In CALS, she is a CALS ambassador and an Environment and Sustainability Peer Mentor. Outside of Cornell she is the co-founder of Code Red, an organization dedicated to bringing menstrual products to impoverished residents of NYC and reducing the stigma around women’s health. She can be found identifying niche insects around campus!

Aaron Bloom

Aaron is a senior concentrating in Sustainable Business and Environmental Economics. He is minoring in Applied Economics and Climate Change. This summer, he worked on campus at the L.H. Bailey Hortorium Herbarium as a Plant Biodiversity Intern. Also, he is teaching a Basic Rock Climbing course for Cornell Outdoor Education. Outside of school, he enjoys running, the outdoors, and playing music.

Ty O.

Born and raised in NYC, Ty (CALS ‘26) is passionate about the intersection of food and sustainability. Interested in student-designing his concentration around Sustainable Business and Marketing, Ty worked during the summer of 2023 as a Marketing Intern for indoor vertical farm AeroFarms and as a Retail and Foodservice Sales Intern for upcycled pasta sauce company Matriark Foods. At Cornell, Ty is involved with Cornell Sustainability Consultants as the Co-Project Manager of the Sustainable Beverage sub-team and works with local breweries and wineries to achieve sustainability goals. In his free time, Ty loves exploring the natural beauty of all of Ithaca’s waterfalls and gorges!

Jade Foxall

Jade Foxall is a junior in CALS concentrating in EPG with an intended SBEE minor. Outside of academics, she is an active member of Epsilon Eta and volunteers with Food Recovery Network. She is currently interning in a government office in her hometown of Oakland, CA. In her free time, Jade enjoys running Ithaca’s trails, going to the farmers market, and thrifting.

Jacob Blizard

 

Jacob is a junior with a self-designed concentration in Environmental and Food Systems Justice, where they seek to expand their knowledge and utilize food as a medium for equity. They are active in several campus spheres, namely as a student coordinator for Anabel’s Grocery and an undergraduate research assistant in the Food Systems and Global Change program. He is also an undergraduate teaching assistant for Just Food, an introductory Global Development course focusing on the different stages of our modern food system. This summer, Jacob is working as a fellow with a food justice nonprofit in Boston, where they coordinate nutritional curriculum/classes and urban farm work. Outside of academics, Jacob enjoys playing trombone and exploring new spots in and around Ithaca.

Liza Wadell

Liza is a junior in E&S with a concentration in Sustainable Business and Environmental Economics. She is also an Economics major. At Cornell, Liza is involved in the Big Red Bands, is a member of the professional agriculture fraternity, Alpha Zeta, and does research as part of the Laidlaw Scholars Program. She is passionate about the intersection of issues like environmental health, economics, international relations, and public health. In her free time, Liza enjoys hiking, listening to music, and exploring new places.

Amanda Lammers

Amanda is a senior concentrating in Sustainable Business and Environmental Economics. She is passionate about corporate sustainability and the transition to renewable energy. Outside of the classroom, she works as the Communications Chair for Epsilon Eta, Cornell's professional sustainability fraternity. Also, she is a senior advisor for Impact Investing at Cornell, an impact-focused consulting organization. During the Summer of 2023, she worked as a Financial Transformation Junior Consultant Intern in New York, NY.

Raymond Pan

Hi, my name is Raymond Pan, and I am a sophomore from Athens, Georgia. I am an E&S major concentrating in Sustainable Agriculture and double minoring in Business and Sustainable Cropping Systems. At Cornell, I am involved in the Cornell Bee Club, Cornell Running Club, Cornell Angler Society, and MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences). I love listening to country music, fishing, and having a good time with my friends, A fun fact about myself is that I am working on learning Spanish, but I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and a local dialect in China called Fuzhounese.
