What has been an academic highlight for you within your major?

Becoming a TA for one of my favorite animal science classes, ANSC 2400, was a highlight of my past semester. I not only was able to relive some very exciting labs, including a gravid bovine uterus dissection, but also got to connect with and help teach freshmen. Working with professor Dr. Allen only made this role even more memorable with his humor and genuine love for teaching. 

What is something you have been involved with outside academics that is meaningful to you? 

I work as a laboratory assistant at The Bacteriology Laboratory of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM)! Prior to working here, I had never stepped foot in a lab and since joining the AHDC team, I’ve learned so much about what really goes on behind the scenes when a veterinarian sends out samples to be tested. Although I’m not working directly with animals, I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and experience that will surely make me a better doctor in the future. I’ve even been able to apply many skills that I’ve learned in my first-year animal science classes such as micro pipetting. 

What are your post-graduation goals?

I hope to attend veterinary school in my home state to achieve my goal of becoming a small animal veterinarian. 

What is one of your favorite spots on campus?

The vet school library! I love the warm lighting at the desks and all the natural sunlight that comes in. It makes the perfect cozy study spot.
