MyCALSMoment
My CALS Moment was major orientation day during O-week when I first met all my first-year GDEV majors! I was so excited to meet someone who is just as passionate about global issues as I was, and also meet professors who I mentioned during my admission essay.
What has been an academic highlight for you within your major?
During GDEV 2065, taught by Professor Liao, I truly enjoyed selecting criteria to build a research framework for my CALS student grants proposal on the question: To what extent does the change in land use in peri-urban areas from small-scale farmland to built-up areas affect food security?
What has been an academic highlight for you outside of your major?
I have been intrigued by AEM 2020 Better Decision-making for Life, Love, and Money. The most valuable lessons I obtained were the components of good teamwork: psychological safety, the necessity to be aware of group thinking (especially self-censorship), and having a solid and justified decision-making process through exchanging feedback.
What is something you have been involved with outside of academics that is meaningful to you?
I serve as a Co-President of Cornell Undergraduate Research Board (CURB) and Vice President of Cornell United Way. In these positions, I feel honored and rewarded to contribute to facilitating undergraduate students' engaged learning opportunities from research and community service dimensions.
