Advanced Placement (AP) Credit Table

Many students have taken CollegeBoard Advanced Placement Exams, International Baccalaureate, GCE A-Level, French Baccalaureate, or Cambridge Pre-University Principal Subject courses in high school and have completed corresponding exams that may award college-level credit.

A note about major requirements and forfeiting AP credit

AP credit awarded by CALS may not automatically satisfy requirements within your specific major. You should confirm directly with your major department or advising coordinator whether your AP credit will be accepted toward your degree requirements.

Your advisor may also recommend that you forfeit your AP credit and take the equivalent Cornell course instead — for example, if the Cornell course provides a stronger foundation for upper-level coursework in your program, or if your major requires a specific Cornell course equivalent. This choice is ultimately yours to make in consultation with your advisor.

Overview of AP Credit Tables

The AP credit tables summarize exam credit and placement that are specific to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). For more information about advanced placement credit and a comprehensive list of Advanced Placement sources and credit awarded by the University, please refer to the Courses of Study.

Visit the Biological Sciences website for policies on Advanced Placement Biology credit.

How to read this table

Each row shows the credit and placement awarded by CALS for a qualifying exam score. The Credit & Placement Information column describes what credit is granted and any forfeiture conditions. Every row also carries a standard advisory note (in italics) reminding you to confirm with your major or department advising coordinator before assuming the credit satisfies your degree requirements.

About forfeiting AP credit

Forfeiting AP credit means choosing not to use the exam credit toward your degree and instead enrolling in — and earning credit for — the equivalent Cornell course. You may wish to do this if your major requires the Cornell course specifically, or if your advisor believes the Cornell course will better prepare you for advanced coursework. Talk to your faculty or department advising coordinator before making this decision.
