Two extension educators from the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management were honored in July at the annual meeting of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
Bobbie Severson, extension associate and program leader for the Cornell Cooperative Enterprise Program, received a distinguished service award in recognition of the accomplishments of long-term extension educators. Severson was cited for her leadership in agricultural production, farm and food system economic development, and farm land-use and protection. She has been an educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension and Cornell University for 18 years.
Dan Welch, extension support specialist and coordinator for business and succession planning in the FarmNet program, received the achievement award, which recognizes the accomplishments of younger extension educators. Welch was singled out for his effectiveness in developing collaborative relationships across extension and industry partners and for working with youth.
Severson and Welch were the only New York state extension educators recognized by the national association this year.
“These awards recognize the dedication and hard work of two extension educators – one veteran educator and one early in his career,” said Andrew Novaković, the E.V. Baker Professor of Agricultural Economics and director of engagement at the Dyson School. “Their accomplishments are a tribute to the Dyson School’s land-grant legacy and our ongoing commitment to extending research and education beyond Cornell to New York, the nation and the world.”
