Coming down the final stretch, CALS alumnus Chad Brown ’00 has a commanding lead as the top trainer in the prestigious Saratoga Race Course season.

Horses trained by Brown, an animal science alumnus, have claimed 26 victories so far this summer at Saratoga. Brown has a nine win lead over the next challenger with just over two weeks left in the 40 day race season.

The top training title has been an elusive one for Brown. Since 2011, the 37-year-old trainer has been runner-up three times.

During that time Brown has made a name for himself as one of the top thoroughbred racehorse trainers in the world. Last year his horses claimed 203 victories in races held around the world, bringing in $20 million in earnings to his stable.

Brown came to Cornell with plans to become a veterinarian until a summer job with Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey convinced Brown that his passion lay in racing. He is known for his masterful attention to the animals in his care and ability to bring out the best in the horses he trains.
