Hands-On Pest Identification Courses

Community IPM Coordinator Jody Gangloff-Kaufmann and Community IPM Educator Matt Frye partnered with the New York and New Jersey Pest Management Associations and master gardener volunteer groups from across New York State to hold their popular Hands-On Pest Identification Courses. Each session of the program, includes a four-hour, hands-on workshop focusing on the identification and biology of common pests found in and around structures. Using real, preserved specimens of common arthropods like flies, cockroaches, ants and wasps, participants learn to identify pests through a series of five short, focused lectures, followed by hands-on identification of the featured pests. The course has now been offered more than 20 times and is one of the most popular programs offered by NYSIPM.
