MyCALSMoment

I took COMM 3080: From the Lab to the World. First, we had a small discussion-based seminar. Then, over the summer I worked at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology doing video editing. After that, we had a TED Talk-style presentation. I loved hearing about others’ experiences and sharing mine!

Why is CALS a great fit for you?

Taking classes on topics like entomology, oceanography, and mycology gave me an appreciation for the earth! I love how I’ve been able to take classes across lots of fields beyond my major. CALS students want to make the world a better place!

What has been an academic highlight for you within your major?

Communication, Environment, Science, and Health was an incredible class that opened my eyes to a different side of Communication I didn’t think about before. I always left that class feeling inspired.

What is something you have been involved with outside of academics that is meaningful to you?

I am a member of Women’s Health Initiative. We are dedicated to community service, education, and advocacy about different health topics. We have invited professors as guest speakers for intimate discussions and we run the campus-wide period drive where we donate menstrual products to a homeless shelter in Ithaca.
