About
María Boa Alvarado is passionate about transitions towards climate-resilient and sustainable food systems.
Before joining Cornell, María worked as a scaling expert in sustainable agrifood systems. She researched and facilitated participatory processes in Latin America, Africa, and South Asia. Currently, María is a PhD candidate conducting her research in Mexico in the Ich Kool (Mayan milpa) landscape, exploring its futures and transformation pathways together with local farmer groups and other stakeholders.
She earned her B.S. as Manager of Natural Resources from Marist University of Merida (2012) and her joint M.Sc. in Rural Development from Wageningen, Gent, and Humboldt Universities (2016).
