PRO-DAIRY’s Dairy Market Watch provides monthly information and analysis of Northeast dairy market trends.
Average butterfat and protein levels in Northeast milk fell slightly in April from the month prior, but were higher year over year. The Statistical Uniform Price, not including PPD, rose to $18.80/cwt, and with a $3.43 PPD, the effective price reached $22.23. The butterfat price per pound declined, while protein price increased. Class II products—especially yogurt, cottage cheese, and ice cream—showed notable year‑over‑year growth, giving Class II the highest utilization at 30%. This was the first time Class II had the highest utilization in the order. Whole milk, butter, dried products, and cheese saw modest declines year over year. Overall, component trends followed seasonal patterns, and utilization shifts highlighted stronger demand for soft and cultured dairy products.
