Why did you choose Cornell CALS?

I chose to be part of Cornell CALS not only to further my education but also to take advantage of the plethora of other opportunities this college offers. Even though this is my first year at the university, I’ve already made many friends and connections that will last a lifetime. CALS has a unique element of belonging and pride, coupled with agricultural education, that stuck out to me.

Looking back over your freshman year at CALS, which classes or experiences were most meaningful?

I have enjoyed all of the classes I have taken so far at CALS. I have been able to learn so much about the dairy industry and felt so welcomed by my classmates from that sector of agriculture. For all CALS students interested in agriculture, Dairy Cattle Principles is a class you must take! Other experiences that have been meaningful are the extracurricular activities I have been a part of. Team Ag Ed, Cornell University Dairy Science Club and Sigma Alpha have taught me so much outside of the classroom or lab.

What kind of research are you interested in?

I am interested in research within the thoroughbred industry. I want to continue to advocate for the agricultural industry I am a part of and find ways to make the sport safer in many different contexts. This includes researching new protective equipment, ways to provide more nutrients to the horses, and create safer and more sustainable measures to ensure that the horses are safe when racing.
