Why did you choose Cornell CALS?

I chose Cornell CALS because of the hands-on experience and opportunities within the college. There are endless opportunities within CALS and the food science department to get involved in research, clubs and unique learning experiences. I wanted a school where I could be academically challenged and gain experience relevant to my career goals. When I first stepped foot onto Cornell’s campus, I knew it was where I wanted to spend my college career.

Looking back over your freshman year at CALS, which classes or experiences were most meaningful?

My first semester at Cornell I took FDSC 1101: Science and Technology of Foods. Among the students, this is better known as the “ice cream making class.” In the class, you divide into teams and create a novel ice cream flavor. Being able to gain hands-on product development experience in my first semester truly solidified my desire to become a food scientist. Additionally, getting involved in clubs within my major has allowed me to learn more about the world of food science and attend exciting and engaging events.

What kind of research are you interested in?

I am interested in research related to food and human health. There is a great deal of research happening in the food science department concerning the effects of our diet that I would love to be involved in.
