Sarah Pethybridge, assistant professor in the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section of the School of Integrative Plant Science, received the Early Achievement Award at a ceremony Nov. 5 celebrating research, extension and staff excellence at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS).

Sarah is an international leader in plant pathology and is highly respected by her academic peers and the New York state vegetable industry," said Kathryn J. Boor '80, the Ronald P. Lynch Dean of CALS. "With a focus on vegetable crop diseases, she shows a passionate commitment to both research and extension activities."

Pethybridge has authored more than 40 refereed articles in less than four years at Cornell, including 15 in 2017 alone. She has secured more than $3.2 million in grant funding and has delivered 42 invited extension talks.

Her efforts developing innovative mobile apps and drone imaging technology to survey disease is part of the Cornell Digital Agriculture Initiative. She has developed extension resources to help farmers identify and manage a broad array of crop diseases. "Her work is making measurable impacts in the profitability of New York state farmers," said Boor.
