Stocking Hall has made the shortlist of awardees for the nation’s highest public award for design excellence, as the renovation project claimed a 2016 American Architecture Awards

This award from the Chicago Athenaeum, announced Aug. 26, highlighted the rehabilitation and addition to Stocking Hall, completed in 2015 by Mitchell | Giurgola Architects, LLP. The innovative design included the glass-fronted Dairy Bar and dairy plant as well as ground-floor laboratories for wine production and sensory studies of food. The dairy plant features an interactive observation deck and there are cow-spot designs throughout the building.

The American Architecture Awards, founded 22 years ago, is a centerpiece of The Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of architectural development and to bring a global focus to light of the best new designs from the United States, according to the organization. It is the only national and global program of its kind.
