Chris Gerling has become the go-to guy for New York vintners. But did you know his early days at Cornell were spent in entomology, rather than enology? An extension associate since 2008 and manager of the Vinification & Brewing Technology Laboratory at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, NY., Gerling recently sat down with Appellation Cornell to talk about his career. “My job is fun in that no two days are ever exactly the same. My job can be frustrating in that no two days are ever exactly the same.” He also co-hosts a popular podcast, PressPad, with Hans Walter-Peterson of the Finger Lakes Grape Program  which attempts to connect grape growing to winemaking, and research to practice.

To get the latest news about the state grape harvest, check out the most recent issue of the seasonal Veraison to Harvest newsletter.
