How to Volunteer at the Cornell Herbarium
Who can volunteer?
- People 14 or older
- College students exploring to opportunities in plant biology
- Artists looking to engage in new crafts
- Retirees looking to try something new (we love retired botanists too!)
- High school students fulfilling internship requirements
What is there to do?
- Process incoming herbarium specimens
- Mount specimens
- File specimens
- Sort specimens
- Image specimens
- Data entry
- Reference library organization
- & maybe even help with fieldwork!
How much time should I volunteer?
- Our staff is available to work with volunteers Monday through Friday, 9am - 5pm
- We request a commitment of several months, in one or two, 2- or 3-hour blocks per week
- Volunteers should set up a regular schedule
