Degree Program: Master of Landscape Architecture '23
Undergraduate Degree: Bachelor Degree in Environmental Design
What kind of questions or curiosities did you have when you decided to pursue a degree in landscape architecture?
Would you prefer a park that looks better(innovative) or a park that is more convenient? How far can a female landscape architect go?
How would you characterize your design ethos? How has that been adapted since arriving at Cornell?
I tend to show my design ideas directly in diagrams. I have developed spatial literacy and fundamental skills through Cornell study life. Specifically, I am proficient at the overall process of landscape design from on-site research, meditation, to design drawing. Aware of the environmental challenges in this fast-paced world, I also learned to design ecologically on the basis of perceptions of local residents from the studio of Miller House, and interactions between people and the environment. I further cultivated investigation skills while assessing the site suitability and design appropriateness. Besides extensive knowledge reserve, my communication and management skills were strengthened significantly during the practices. Then, I realize that we would be successful only when we create aesthetic values on the appropriate functionality basis of the design.
What kinds of professional and personal trajectories are you setting for yourself at the moment?
My short-term goal is to be a licensed landscape architect. Afterward, I aspire to engage in a top-notch landscape architecture studio as a master designer and realize self-value further. Thus, my immediate goal is to improve my design skills continuously, find my own style of drawing, and keep abreast with the contemporary developments in the field. Besides, I hope to work with high-achieving classmates and professionals to address the design challenges facing landscapes and explore positive ways to build a better world.
