Brian Aukema
NYS 4-H Livestock and Companion Animal Specialist, Animal Science

Brian grew up on a dairy farm in Broome County and was active in the Broome County 4-H dairy and livestock programs, showing both dairy and dairy goats across NYS. Currently, Brian lives on a small farm with his wife Crystal and their three kids Brycen, Anna and Fenton and their two labs, Katie and Maple. They have a flock of sheep, which Brian calls his kids' "4-H project gone wild." They stay active in the dairy program with a small herd of dairy animals, raise broiler chickens and turkeys, and have a flock of laying hens.
Previously, Brian worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County for 24 years. During his time with CCE-BC he held several positions, from 4-H Animal Science Educator to, most recently, associate director of agriculture. Some of his most notable achievements while at CCE-BC include starting a 4-H Livestock Market program, the 4-H Ag in the Classroom program and the Broome County Farm Trail.
Brian has a true passion for agriculture and livestock and enjoys sharing that passion with others.
Extension Focus
Brian has statewide responsibilities within the New York State 4-H Youth Development Program, providing leadership for 4-H animal science livestock (beef, sheep, swine, poultry and llama) and companion animal (dog, cat, rabbit and other pets) programming.
