Zooplankton as indicators Group (ZIG)
Stephanie Figary, Rachel Pilla, Michael Meyer, Warren Currie and others in GLEON
ZIG launched a call for existing zooplankton data through the GLEON network in January 2021. Since then, the group has grown to over 190 aquatic ecologists and is funded as a Working Group with ZooST and ZooSize at several Synthesis Centers (USGS Powell Center, Fort Collins, CO; Environmental Data Science Innovation & Inclusion Lab, Boulder, CO and Centre for the Synthesis and Analysis of Biodiversity, France). There are over 300 datasets in the fully harmonized and analysis-ready Zooplankton International Geospatial dataset representing all continents except Antarctica. ZIG drafted a draft data paper that it plans to submit this year and is starting early analysis on the first manuscript using the data set. Additionally, the participants of ZIG have defined over twenty follow up research questions the group will pursue after completing the first two manuscripts.
