Can invasive round goby successfully reproduce in estuarine and marine waters of NY?
Suresh Sethi, James Watkins, Kelsey Alvarez, Rob Dickie (Funded by Cornell Water Resources Institute and NYSDEC)
Round goby invaded Oneida Lake in 2014 and has continued to spread eastward across the state via the Erie Canal, making its way into the Hudson River Estuary. The risk map developed by Alvarez et al. for the previous project does not provide information on the sensitivity of eggs and larvae. Oneida Lake gobies collected in June 2024 were reared at the experimental facility at CUNY Brooklyn into 2025 to evaluate spawning success after exposure to estuarine salinity levels.
