Thesis Formatting Instructions

Format

All pages should measure 8 ½” x 11”.

Margins must be at least 1” on all sides, including any figures, photographs, or illustrations.

Use consistent and sensible page numbering throughout text.

Title Page

The title of each honors thesis should include the following items, centered from side to side:

Honors Thesis
Presented to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, [Name of honors program area]
of Cornell University
in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the
Research Honors Program

by
[Author’s name]
[month and year of conferral, ex. May 2016]
[Name of research faculty mentor]

Note: The author’s name should appear as it does in the university’s official records.

eCommons: Voluntary Thesis Submission

Cornell’s digital repository, eCommons, allows you to publish your research honors thesis online once it is accepted. In keeping with Cornell’s initiative to make their websites accessible to all, eCommons has established new formatting standards as of October 15, 2019. If your thesis does not meet these standards, it cannot be uploaded to eCommons.
