CALS undergraduate students must be granted permission to earn a double major by both major departments and CALS Student Services.
CALS students wishing to double major in AEM should refer to information on the AEM double major process. Dyson students wishing to double major must seek permission from Dyson Student Services.
To begin declaring a double major, meet with your current faculty advisor (CALS) or department advising coordinator (Dyson) to discuss how declaring a double major will support your academic and professional goals.
Students must confirm they can complete the requirements for both majors within the timeline of their current expected graduation date.
Contact the advising coordinator in your second major of interest to discuss requirements and identify a second faculty advisor.
Once approved, a staff member from your second major will notify CALS Student Services of the double major, and your official record will be updated.
Policies & Requirements
Both majors must be within CALS (this includes the AEM major).
Students must complete the requirements set forth by both major departments to graduate with a double major.
It is the student's responsibility to keep both faculty advisors informed of their academic progress.
Students are not permitted to extend or delay their expected graduation date to complete requirements for a double major.
Students completing a double major receive one degree and one diploma.
If a student has completed one major but not the other at the time of graduation, the student's degree will be conferred with the completed major.
Students wishing to remove a second major from their record must contact CALS Student Services, cals-studentservices [at] cornell.edu (cals-studentservices[at]cornell[dot]edu).
