Louis Longchamps

I am an Assistant Professor of Digital Agronomy in the Soil & Crop Sciences Section, School of Integrative Plant Science since 2020.  My research focuses on simplifying and enhancing the Farmer-Centric On-Farm Experimentation (OFE) process. With my multi-disciplinary team, we develop tools that make data collection, organization, and analysis more efficient for farmers and their partners, empowering New York farms to become more sustainable and resilient. Visit the Farmers DataLab website to learn more.

Previously, I worked for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, where my research focused on optimizing nitrogen management using remote sensing and reducing nitrous oxide emissions through variable-rate application. I was also co-leader of a Living Laboratory, co-creating solutions with farmers to reduce the environmental impacts of agriculture on the St. Lawrence River’s ecosystems.

I earned my PhD at Laval University where my thesis focused on “Spatial structure of weed populations in corn fields and measure of the potential for site-specific weed management." I followed that with postdoctoral work in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Colorado State University studying variable rate irrigation and N management.
