Michael earned his B.A. in Sociology and American Studies from the University of Virginia (2008), and his M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University (2017).
His research interests include landscape fire, state formation, agrarian political economy, and political ecology, with a regional focus on South America.
