In the rush of tourism decline and deindustrialization, the preservation of Tres Xemeneies (Three Chimneys), delimited by the Besòs River and the coastline between Barcelona and Badalona, rises with its symbolic importance of being an ‘unwanted but ultimately accepted’ landscape that challenges designers to adaptively reuse these industrial remnants.
Paths to Recovery project proposes to establish a new framework to eliminate the disconnection between industrial fabric and coastal environment and embody the reestablished place with a new identity resultant from a systematic interaction between human, nature, and industrial remnant.
