Kitty O’Neil
Regional Field Crops and Soils Specialist, Cornell Cooperative Extension

Kitty began working with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) in 2013 and officially joined the CCE North Country Regional Agriculture Team (NCRAT), as team leader, in 2016. In this position, Kitty works with farms of all sizes and types as well as crop consultants, ag businesses, and agencies across the 6-county region. Her main duties include:
- Providing evidence-based field crop production education and outreach with the goals of optimizing field crop production and minimizing environmental impacts.
- Conducting on-farm agronomic research that directly impacts commercial farms in NNY and NYS
- Providing one-on-one technical recommendations and problem-solving to farmers and ag industry professionals
- Collaborating with public agency and CCE staff and faculty to develop and deliver resources and assistance to support ag industries
Kitty completed a doctoral degree at Michigan State University with a focus on soil health and potato cropping systems in 2013. She also has a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition from MSU.
Kitty’s areas of interest include soil health and fertility, nutrient management, forages, whole cropping systems, climate change, and organic and reduced-input methods.
