Juliet Carroll

Juliet worked with the NYS IPM Program promoting use of IPM practices by fruit growers to protect their crops with the goal of minimizing economic, health and environmental risks. She developed NEWA, newa.cornell.edu, into a popular digital weather platform delivering IPM forecasts. NEWA's impact is real! For example, the 15 IPM tools for apple growers improve pesticide spray timing, while reducing sprays and crop loss. She worked to develop models for strawberries and blueberries and her research looked into using hummingbirds to lower populations of fruit-infesting spotted wing drosophila in berry plantings.

As an emerita faculty in SIPS, Juliet is upgrading Trac Software to Trac Cloud. Trac record-keeping and reporting software has been used by fruit and turfgrass growers to manage their pesticide spray records and meet reporting requirements. Prior to earning emerita status in SIPS, she was the fruit IPM coordinator with the NYS Integrated Pest Management Program and had an adjunct appointment in the SIPS Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section.
