Student Evaluations of Teaching (SETs)
The Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences administers Student Evaluations of Teaching (SETs) each fall and spring to gather feedback and support continuous improvement in teaching.
Students
- Fall/Spring courses: Students will receive an email from the SETs team when evaluations open. Reminder messages will be sent until you complete your evaluation(s). Please submit feedback before your evaluation period closes.
- Summer/Winter Sessions: Course evaluations are administered through the School of Continuing Education.
Faculty and Staff
Mid-Term Feedback
CALS does not administer formal mid-term evaluations. Faculty are encouraged to use the Mid-Semester Feedback Program by the Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) to gather actionable input during the term.
Seven-Week and End-of-Term Evaluations
Per the CALS Faculty Senate, all teaching faculty must ask students in each course to complete the standard evaluation delivered through the SETs system.
CALS faculty are encouraged to upload their course syllabus to the Cornell Roster to help students better understand course expectations and outcomes.
When evaluations open, teaching faculty will receive an email from the SETs team with links to:
- Monitor response rates
- Resend notifications to students who have not yet completed evaluations.
- Add custom questions
After final grades are submitted, instructors will receive instructions on how to access evaluation results.
